WELCOME TO THE DEPARTMENT OF PHARMACOLOGY & REGENERATIVE MEDICINE
It is a matter of pride and pleasure to introduce you to the Department of Pharmacology and Regenerative Medicine at the University of Illinois in Chicago. We use state-of-the-art approaches to look into a single cell which can be a stem cell or mature cells such as platelets, endothelial cells, and immune cells. Here our aim is to decipher how changes in acute signaling within a cell affect its communication with neighboring cells, gene transcription, translation, and the functions of tissues such as the lung and heart. Along these lines, the Department has made tremendous advancements toward developing therapeutic inventions hoping to cure life-threatening lung and heart diseases.
The Department has consistently ranked among the top program in the nation in NIH Funding. Currently, the Department ranks 9th in the country in funding within the category of Pharmacology and Pharmacy. Our success is because of fantastic faculty, who partner with junior faculty, postdoctoral fellows, and graduate students with a mission to expand their scientific curiosity and generate top-notch scientists suited to pursue a career in academics or industry.
I hope you will enjoy our website and plan to be a part of our proud family!! We, of course, look forward to your suggestions and comments.

The Department of Pharmacology & Regenrative Medicine has numerous fully funded graduate student and postdoctoral fellow positions available in the areas of stem cell biology & regenerative medicine, cell signaling, vascular biology, lung biology, inflammation signaling, and thrombosis & platelet signaling. Our department consistently ranks among the top departments nationwide in NIH funding, and frequently publishes in top-tier journals such as Nature Communications, PNAS, Immunity, Cancer Cell, Cell Stem Cell, Journal of Cell Biology, among others. Trainees routinely transition to faculty positions or research-intensive careers in the biopharmaceutical industry after completing their training in our department.
The Department also leads the NIH T32 Training Program in Lung Biology and Pathobiology, which provides funding for 6 predoctoral and 6 postdoctoral fellows per year. Additionally, departmental faculty are mentors on 6 other university training grants, offering a plethora of funding opportunities. Both predoctoral students and postdoctoral fellows in the Department are consistently successful in receiving competitive individual external funding from the National Institutes of Health, American Heart Association, Chicago Biomedical Consortium, and Parker B Francis Foundation.
